VHS HANNOVER WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROJECT FROM AN ADULT EDUCATION PERSPECTIVE

VHS HANNOVER

`Volkshochschule Hannover (VHS)´ is the Adult Education Centre of the City of Hannover.

`Volk´ means `people´ or `folk´ and `hochschule´ means `university´. If you put these words together you get `Volkshochschule´ which means university for people from all walks of life and every age group.

The `Ada und Theodor Lessing Volkshochschule Hannover´ is a non-profit organisation which is run as a part of the municipality of Hannover. It is financed through course fees and public subsidies. It is not a regular school although there are over 1000 `Volkshochschulen´ all over Germany which are unofficially recognized as providers of further education, esp. vocational and second-chance education. The school offers a programme for adults each year of hundred and thirty thousand teaching periods, of which about forty thousand are in vocational training and preparation for school leaving certificates. In total, around thirty thousand people attend to three thousand further education courses and events each year.

The VHS Hannover is committed to promote in particular people from marginalized and vulnerable groups.
